“Thank You!” to Emily Carrollo our September guest speaker. Emily is Black Bear Program Specialist for the Pennsylvania Game Commission. If you plan on hunting black bears you will not want to miss Emily’s presentation!
Emily graduated from the University of Virginia in May of 2013 where she received my Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Science with a Specialization in Environmental Conservation. She then went the Pennsylvania State University where I received my Master of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries Science in May of 2016. My thesis work was focused on the application of resource selection functions to wildlife GPS data, and the selection of agricultural crops by mule deer in southwest Colorado.
Emily started her current position as the black bear program specialist for the Pennsylvania Game Commission where she manages the black bear program for the entire state. This involves all aspects of many bear/big game programs such as research coordination, annual harvest management, annual reports for grants and funding, law enforcement coordination, and coordination with regional and local staff.
Emily’s presentation provided a rare opportunity to learn and gain tremendous insight into black bear behavior just in time for the 2022 black bear season!
