Greetings from the Hunting Lodge at Algar Safaris in Patagonia Argentina

A Past President’s Message

As I sit here and listen to the Red Stag roaring near and far, I begin to reflect on what has brought me and my wife to this beautiful place. I realize it is SCI and the Lehigh Valley Chapter fundraiser that gave me the opportunity to do such a wonderful hunt. The generosity of the donors who are willing to put their goods and services up for auction so we may purchase them and use these monies to protect and promote the hunting industry worldwide is how I got here.

I begin to reminisce about the first Lehigh Valley banquet I attended way back in 1986, the awe and amazement and excitement of such a great event had me hooked the first time I attended. I looked forward to the annual banquet each year and eventually applied for a seat on the board of directors to volunteer my time to help promote SCI and its mission statement as many volunteers did before me.

Now I think of the last eight years I served on the board of directors, as conservation chairman, live auction chairman, vice president and now president of the greatest chapter in SCI for the last three years. This has been a truly rewarding experience for me as I have made many new friends, hunting buddies and contacts with world class outfitters. The last three years have gone by in a flash and I simply cannot express, in words, my feelings of pride and accomplishment of what the Lehigh Valley Chapter SCI has done. I could not have accomplished this alone, as I am privileged to have worked side by side with an incredible group of individuals who tirelessly donate their time and resources to promote and preserve hunting in Pennsylvania and worldwide.

We want the sport of hunting to survive and grow so each and every person who wants to participate in the sport of hunting can do so…

Tim Reiger, Past LVSCI President

At the banquet, I brought the board up on stage so everyone could see who does the heavy lifting for the chapter. I got a bit emotional, not because I was sad, but because I am passionate about what I believe in and what we do for SCI and the hunting community. I also have a deep respect for the individuals that make up the board, all too often they are overlooked for their hundreds of hours of donated time and effort to make the Lehigh Valley Chapter SCI what it is today.

I… we, want the sport of hunting to survive and grow so each and every person who wants to participate in the sport of hunting can do so, I am a HUNTER and damn proud of it. I want to thank everyone who gave me the opportunity, and supported me, to represent the Lehigh Valley Chapter SCI as president. I am most thankful for the privilege and honor, to serve the members of this great chapter for the past three years and look forward to many more years as a contributing member of this fantastic organization.

Gazing back across the rolling hills of the Patagonian countryside, I listen to, and watch the herd stag roar and chase hinds over the lush hills with his massive antlers glistening in the afternoon sunshine. The sight of such a magnificent beast and his guttural roar will remain imbedded in my memories for a long time. My guide Leo is arriving for the afternoon hunt, time to go…

Tim Reiger
President

Hunting is conservation! When reports came in of an old, monstrous mountain lion wreaking mortal havoc on a rural community in western Colorado, former Broncos lineman and lifelong hunter Derek Wolfe jumped at the opportunity to grab his bow, his hunting license and take to the mountains to track the cat down. After a grueling trek up and down the mountains of Colorado’s western slope, Derek was able to harvest the lion and get an impressive photo that shows the true size of the beast!

Colorado Parks and Wildlife confirmed Derek hunted this mountain legally and ethically. Legal and regulated hunting is a crucial part of wildlife population management in Colorado. The only problem? Anti-hunting extremist groups are furious and have encouraged and even facilitated threats against Derek and his family.

SCI stands with Derek and all hunters who should be able to honor America’s hunting heritage and participate in real conservation without enduring ridicule and threats of violence from ignorant, radical activists. #FirstForHunters Derek Wolfe Tucker Carlson
